Careers Counselling

Mentone Girls' Grammar School has an impressive track record with tertiary placement following VCE. Consistently, we achieve a 100% success rate in placing students in courses where they hope to follow their dreams.

This is because our Careers office is not simply a resource for Year 12 students. Careers counselling begins as a core subject in Year 10, following comprehensive ‘Morrisby Report’ testing at the end of Year 9. Extensive follow up interviews are offered to parents after their daughter has undertaken the Morrisby testing at the end of Year 9.

The Morrisby Report helps students and parents understand their potential and provides information to assist in making course and career decisions. The Morrisby Report is well established, well researched and well regarded by careers advisers.

In Year 10, students are taught how to present themselves to gain their best advantage in a competitive world. Mock interviews are carried out by experienced interviewers and students have an opportunity to evaluate their performance. Year 10 students are counselled individually about their VCE program selection and individual counselling is readily available at any time.

A VCE Subject Expo and Careers Information Evening are organised each year for students in Years 10 – 12. In Year 11 and 12 students experience a program of speakers, visits to tertiary institutions, individual counselling, camps and conferences which support them as they prepare for the transition to tertiary studies and then on to the world of work.

The Careers Counsellor is also available for past students who come back to change course preferences.
