Internationalism & Languages
Establishing links with people overseas is one way that Mentone Girls’ Grammar School is an internationally-minded school. We have reciprocal exchange programs with schools in France, Germany and Japan.
ST ASPAIS - Melun, France and GYMNASIUM HOCHRAD, Hamburg, Germany
These programs are partially reciprocal exchange programs and both schools encourage MGGS to visit them for a period of 5-6 weeks during the Christmas vacation period, St Aspais and Gymnasium Hocrad students visit MGGS for a similar period of time during their long summer vacation in July/August.
Kinjo Gakuin - Higashi-ku, Japan
This exchange program is strictly reciprocal, and the exact number of students are sent and hosted by each school. MGGS students who go to Japan on exchange are the students who host the Kinjo exchange students. MGGS visit Kinjo Gakuin for a period of 5 weeks during the Christmas vacation period, Kinjo students visit MGGS for exactly the same period of time during their long summer vacation - July/August.
This program has run successfully for over 20 years and runs parallel to the biannual MGGS Japan Study Tour and the Kinjo Study Tour. These two study tours run on alternate years and provide for larger groups of students who are accompanied by staff.
Other opportunities
There are also many opportunities for hosting international students, celebrating international events, such as Chinese New Year and International Women’s Day, and connecting with that wider community through the internet.
Our students learn to see other ways of doing things and to appreciate the diversity of the local and global communities in which we live.
