Prep to Year 4

Students in Prep - Year 4 belong to the stage we call Between the Flags. This stage is characterised by students focusing on the development of essential skills in a nurturing and supportive environment.  Their natural curiosity is aroused and they are challenged to attain their potential in educational, social and physical skills.

Mentone Girls' Grammar School is a candidate School for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years' Program (PYP) and focuses on developing students who are global citizens. This program is recognised and taught in many schools throughout the world.

The PYP inquiry approach offers many opportunities for students to investigate areas of interest related to a central idea being researched. The curriculum focuses on our changing world. The world is getting smaller; many of our students will travel far beyond Australia in the future to live and to work. Our curriculum and the way we want our students to think reflect this. Mentone Girls' Grammar School students are children of the world.

At Mentone Girls' Grammar School, the Auditory Plus Unit uses five vital programs, tools and technology to address the special needs of students with Central Auditory Processing Difficulties.

  • Auditory Training programs

Years 5 and 6

The Year 5 and 6 students progress beyond the foundations and their literacy and numeracy becomes more developed. Students become more complex thinkers and are able to apply thinking strategies as part of their learning. Students in Years 5 & 6 begin to develop leadership skills, taking roles in representing their school. The curriculum aims to make the learning relevant and meaningful to the students.

Years 5 and 6 students belong to the stage we call Sea Change.  This stage is characterised by students beginning to experience change and the program provides them with the support they need to manage the physical and personal changes that they may undergo at this special time of their lives.  Differences in emotional, behavioural and cognitive development among students may be vast.
