Celebrating Books and Teachers!
Joan van Loon, Mentone Girls' Grammar School's own ELC-Year 6 Library teacher and celebrated children's author has teamed up once again with illustrator Chantal Stewart for the fourth time with their new picture book, Teaching the Teacher, a delightful, humorous story that reminds us what it's like to be young again!
The book was officially launched by Publisher, University of Queensland Press, to a packed house at Readings, Port Melbourne on Saturday 18 October. Joan dedicated her book to the Junior School students here at Mentone Girls' Grammar and a special launch of the book took place on Friday 31 October for the girls. Our own Junior School teachers dressed up for the occasion and presented a hilarious re-enactment of the book.
This wonderful event also featured the work of our own budding authors with the launch of the Year 6 Picture Story Books. Every student worked incredibly hard on their story book and they collectively represent a fantastic display of creative writing and illustrations. This was an inspirational event for the students and a great way to celebrate Joan's incredible achievement as well as the dedication and contribution of all our incredible teachers.
