FABulous FUN-filled FAIR!
Despite the ‘spooky' date, Friday 13 March turned out to be a perfect day for the Mentone Girls' Grammar School FabFUNFair.
The School Oval was a sea of happy faces enjoying the many amazing rides including the hair-raising Zipper, ‘flying' Hurricane, gigantic Titanic slide, and the crazy Caterpillar. Not to mention the animal farm and fantastic stalls brimming with goodies from fresh produce, handbags and jewellery, to cakes and other magnificent food from around the world. The magical atmosphere was heightened by the wonderful senior student roving clowns and face-painting masters, and of course the choice refreshments weary parents!
We were very fortunate to have the support of the entire community, who donated a tremendous range of items to the silent auction from books, paintings and fabulous hampers of all shapes, sizes and products, to leather and sporting goods, electronic gadgets, a lawnmower, patio heater, and so much more. The main raffle featured a magnificent camper trailer generously donated by South East Trailers and won by Jenny woodlands (Year 11 parent), an LG wine cellar won by Catherine Wyatt (Year 12 parent) and a Phillips portable DVD player won by Carol Turner.
One of the many highlights of the event was the auction of the giant canvas paintings and quirky pottery vases produced by students in the Junior School, with many items fetching record prices!
Principal Fran Reddan said that it was a truly thrilling event and was a real joy to see so many people from the broader community with adults, and children of all ages enjoying the night.
"As the first major event commemorating our special 110th Anniversary year, we could not have asked for a more perfect opening number. An event like this takes a huge team effort and I would like to thank our Parents' Association and two of our parents in particular, Dale and Ian Benskin for their incredible leadership and organisation. I would also like to thank the many other parents, students, staff, old girls and members of our community who contributed so much to making this event a success. We hope that the funds raised from the Fair will go to one of the School's major sustainability projects," said Principal Reddan.
Thank you to our many FabFUNFair community sponsors
