Winning Friends

The wintry Melbourne weather could not dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of players at the annual Old Girls' Sports Day held on 9 May.

It was wonderful to see so many Old Girls participate in the netball and badminton games against the current Year 12s. The experience and skill of the Year 12s were clearly evident, but the grit and determination, in between bouts of hilarity and a few minor falls, of the Old Girls certainly made for a fantastic event.

Unfortunately for the Old Girls, their hope of finally achieving victory was once again dashed as the Year 12s came out fighting and secured another win, giving them three for three in the series. In the immortal words of famous US athlete Mildred Ella "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias (26 June 1911 - 27 September 1956), "winning has always meant much to me, but winning friends has meant the most".

Winning friends, building a community and continuing the wonderful connection that exists between the alumnae and the School is what the Old Girls' Sports Day is all about, not to mention the sausage sizzle afterwards!

The prized cup was awarded to the 2009 Head Girl, Casey Blundell by Principal Fran Reddan, who said it was a tremendous joy to see the event build each year.

"It is fantastic to witness the incredible sense of community that exists between our past and present students. I would like to thank everyone involved, including the many friends and family who cheered the teams on with gusto. We look forward to an even bigger event next year, and maybe the Old Girls can finally break the drought!"
