Keeping the faith burning bright

As part of the Diocese of Melbourne's outreach for 2009, a special ‘Fresh Connections Prayer Candle' is travelling to all parishes and Anglican schools.

The candle was here at Mentone Girls' Grammar School on Thursday 4 June, housed in the School's Cobbalanna Senior College which became a centre of prayer and thought for students and staff of all religious denominations.

The candle was lit in a special ceremony by Principal Fran Reddan, together with Head Girl Casey Blundell and Deputy Head Girls, Maddie Shepherd and Amy Seymour. During this time, we held a moment of silent prayer for all those in need in our community and around the world.

Principal Reddan said this was a special occasion and a wonderful reminder not only of our own Christian heritage and the values that we hold dear, but of religious tolerance and understanding.

"Young people do have a spiritual dimension and it is important to give them opportunities to reflect on matters that bind us in our common humanity, as well as to give thanks for the blessings they enjoy.  This encourages them to appreciate different philosophical perspectives and learn how they can contribute to making a positive difference to others," said Principal Reddan.
