Tales of the Unexpected
We were told to "Expect the Unexpected" at the recent BIG ART Festival, and unexpected is what we got! From the giant octopus in the Willow Courtyard, floating artwork and dramatic sculptures, to the seven "hidden" mice, the incredible Music and Drama performances, and a special musical feature by our friends from the Sudanese community, BIG ART was certainly a carnival of unexpected delights!
BIG ART is not just about this Festival of Music, Art and Drama, it is a way to explore, express and communicate ideas, beliefs and values through critical thinking and imaginative play. The making and study of art in all its forms, assists students to understand themselves, their place in the world and that the world is created by ‘us', collectively and personally.
Through Music, Visual Communication and Performing Arts, we help promote the personal growth and wellbeing of our students by nurturing positive attitudes towards independent learning, self esteem, industry and productivity, innovative thinking, as well as an interest in, and respect towards others.
This year, the BIG ART Festival was a wonderful showcase of our students' creativity in art, singing, music and dramatic performance. In addition, the BIG Gala Music Concert not only showcased the many musical talents of our students, it was a showcase of past students. Over 30 Old Girls joined with current students in a very BIG performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, which was certainly one of the many highlights of the evening.
