Mentone Old Girl Champion Triathlete

Liz Tosh, from the Class of 2008, is just 19 years old, but is already making her mark as a champion. She recently represented Australia for the first time in the Triathlon World Championships - finishing an incredible 13th in the world for her age group.

Earning the right to don the ‘Green and Gold' means this super fit, remarkable young woman has excelled in, not one, but three sporting disciplines over Olympic distances (1500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run), accruing enough points from a gruelling seven-round challenge series for World Championship selection.

"The opportunity to represent Australia after just one short year of being in the sport is something I have been very privileged to be part of," says Liz.

Liz says that triathlons are about 20 percent fitness and strength and 80 percent heart and determination. Her passion to run a triathlon came shortly after she walked the Kokoda track. "The thought of taking part in something to push both the mental and physical barriers past anything I had ever achieved soon became appealing to me," says Liz.

When asked what her advice would be to current students, it is simple: "Mentone Girls' Grammar School will give you the best possible start to life on an academic and personal level... but it's just the beginning. Don't limit yourself to anything. If you really want to do something special in the future or have an ambition in the life that is beyond the 'normal', then work hard, dream big and you can succeed".

The idea of a well earned rest couldn't be further from this local dynamo's mind. In fact her sights are already firmly set on one day competing in the Hawaiian Iron Man.
