Sport and Outdoor
As Wellbeing is one of the school's core priorities of the WAVES platform, Physical Education is part of the core curriculum from Prep to Year 10 and liife at Mentone Girls’ Grammar School is certainly energetic!
Positive attitudes to physical wellbeing and fitness are established through the Physical Education curriculum, the comprehensive sporting program (with competition at both inter-House and inter-School levels), and the carefully sequenced program in Outdoor Education. From Aerobics to Waterpolo, there is something for everyone with instruction from qualified PE teachers and sports coaches in a number of sports, outdoor and recreational activities. With our unique location on the foreshore, it is not surprising that many of our physical education activities utilise our "beach" campus.
Junior Sports
At the Primary Level, the School participates in the CDPSSA and competes against local primary schools in such activities as Netball, Softball, Cricket, Swimming and Cross Country.
Duke of Edinburgh Awards
The curricular outdoor education program is articulated with active preparation for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, which is an important part of the Year 9 Challenge program. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Co-ordinator works with teachers to organise weekend Skiing, Surfing, Walking, Bike Riding and Rock cCimbing trips.
Girls Sport Victoria (GSV)
Mentone Girls' Grammar School also competes in Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) competition, which involves the 24 Independent Girls' Schools in the Melbourne metropolitan area. Among the sports in which students from Year 7-12 can become involved are Swimming, Diving, Tennis, Softball, Netball, Hockey, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Athletics, Golf and Surf Life Saving. GSV games are played after school, not on weekends.
