Technology

Mentone Girls' Grammar School has extensive network resources that give students access to a range of creative learning tools.  Designing images, creating web pages, learning languages, displaying concepts in Science, experimenting in Mathematics, composing music, creating films and games, and programming in non-traditional areas such as Robotics are just some of the applications of our exciting multi-modal approach to technology.

From Prep, every student is given a network account which provides access to a broad range of desktop programs, centralised file storage, our local intranet, network printers, personal email boxes and broadband internet access. In parallel with access to abundant, modern equipment that is used across the curriculum, students receive specialised tuition from Information Technology teachers in an exciting program designed to assist them in making best use of the technology that surrounds them, from computers, to interactive whiteboards, to digital imaging equipment and extensive intranet resources.

Our local intranet, email, personal and shared files and the library system are available, remotely over the internet, to staff and students, eliminating the physical boundaries between School and home. Teachers routinely post assignments, references and other learning resources for their students to access on the intranet. Drop boxes enable the electronic submission of work and teachers and students routinely communicate by email as an adjunct to class contact time.

Computer access is provided in a variety of arrangements including a number of computer laboratories, pods of computers between classrooms and in open learning spaces as well as computers in individual classrooms. There are also wireless laptops, connected to our network, in use around the school when even more flexible arrangements are required. Our video-editing facility also provides additional multimedia capability.

This extensive infrastructure is supported by a team of highly qualified IT professionals who provide prompt technical support as well as maintain and develop our highly complex server ‘back end' that is the technical core of school operations.
