We are pleased to offer Academic (internal and external candidates) and General Excellence (external candidates only) Scholarships for entry into Years 7 to 11 in 2021. Music (Instrumental or Voice) Scholarships (internal and external candidates) are also available for entry into Years 7 to 11 in 2021.

Details of Testing

Date: Saturday 26 October 2019
Venue: Prudence Lewty Hall, Mentone Girls' Grammar School
Time: Registration from 8.15 - 8.45am
Testing begins promptly at 9.00am and finishes at approximately 12.00pm

 

Please note candidates applying for a Music Scholarship will be required to present for an audition - you will be contacted directly with a date and time. Some General Excellence candidates may also be required to be available for an audition.

Scholarship Information Guide

Application Process

Mentone Girls’ Grammar scholarships are awarded on the basis of test, interview, audition (where applicable) and evidence of achievements.  Scholarship applicants should be prepared to:
 

1.     Complete the online application.

2.     Sit the ACER scholarship test to be held on Saturday 26 October 2019.

3.     Audition (where required).

4.     Submit a portfolio (where required).

5.     Attend an interview (where required).

Testing Day

Students wishing to compete for any of the scholarships outlined below must sit the ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) Scholarship Selection Test on Saturday 26 October 2019 at Mentone Girls’ Grammar, Prudence Lewty Hall.

Applicants should arrive at the School (enter via Gate D) for Registration from 8.15am – 8.45am.  Testing will begin promptly at 9.00am

School Tours - Parents are welcome to do a school tour on the day of the testing.

At Mentone Girls' Grammar, our Principal, Mrs Fran Reddan, enjoys the opportunity to meet all our prospective families.  School Tours and a Principal’s Information Session for parents will be held at 9.15am on scholarship testing day.  This will give families an opportunity to hear from the Principal about how Mentone Girls' Grammar prioritises Wellbeing, Achievement, Values, Enterprise and Success (WAVES).  There is an opportunity to tour the School with our student tour guides and to meet and talk to key staff.

CATEGORY 1: Academic Scholarships 

 

Academic Scholarships are awarded to girls with high academic potential entering Years 5 – 11 in 2021. There are also limited places for Year 11 in 2020.

Current Mentone Girls’ Grammar and external students are eligible for an Academic Scholarship.

Year 5 entry scholarships are potentially tenable to the end of Year 12, subject to ongoing academic success.  Years 7 – 11 scholarships are tenable to the end of Year 12. Academic Scholarships provide partial remission of tuition fees, usually up to 50%.  In some cases greater remission may be awarded to an outstanding student at the School’s discretion.  

Students aiming for an Academic Scholarship must:

·       complete the ACER online test enrolment;

·       sit the Scholarship test on 26 October 2019;

·       provide a copy of the most recent school report and NAPLAN results.

Applicants may also provide additional supporting material such as certificates of achievement or references.

Please send the school report and NAPLAN results, together with any other supporting material, to the Admissions Manager by Wednesday 16 October 2019.

CATEGORY 2: General Excellence Scholarships

General Excellence Scholarships are awarded to girls entering Years 5 – 11 in 2021 who are not currently attending Mentone Girls’ Grammar.

General Excellence Scholarships are designed to support the strategic priorities of the School, and are therefore offered with a focus on the following four areas of interest:
 

·       Performing Arts (Drama, Dance)

·       Sport and Physical Education (Athletics, Swimming, Team Sports)

·       Creativity and passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

·       Visual Arts (Art, Design, Visual Communication)

General Excellence Scholarships provide partial remission of tuition fees (30% or 50%) for the student’s remaining period of education, subject to her continuing superior performance and her contribution to the life of the School in her chosen area of interest and/or other areas as applicable.

Students aiming for a General Excellence Scholarship must:
 

·       complete the ACER online test enrolment;

·       sit the Scholarship test on 26 October 2019;

·       provide a copy of the most recent school report and NAPLAN results.

·       provide additional supporting material such as certificates of achievement or references.

Students applying for a General Excellence Scholarship with a focus on Visual Arts will be required to submit a portfolio and those applicants with a focus on Performing Arts may be required to attend for an audition.

CATEGORY 3: Music (Instrumental or Voice) Scholarships

Music (Instrumental or Voice) Scholarships are awarded to girls entering Years 5 – 11 in 2021 who are talented and dedicated students of music or singing with a view to pursuing VCE Music Performance.  Scholarship recipients are required to participate in a range of school music-related activities, and contribute positively to the overall Performing Arts culture of the School.   

Current Mentone Girls’ Grammar and external students are eligible for a Music (Instrumental or Voice) Scholarship.

A Music (Instrumental or Voice) Scholarship provides partial remission of tuition fees, usually up to 50%, for the student’s remaining period of education, subject to her continuing superior performance and her contribution to the life of the School.  In some cases greater remission may be awarded to an outstanding student at the School’s discretion.

The scholarship also covers remission of tuition for Instrumental or Voice lessons (one instrument/voice nominated at audition) taken at Mentone Girls’ Grammar (or an approved external provider but only up to the value of lessons provided by Mentone Girls’ Grammar).  A Music (Instrumental or Voice) Scholarship will also cover school hire and maintenance fees for a student’s main instrument where necessary, and piano accompaniment for examinations and school performances as required.  

Students aiming for a Music Scholarship must:

complete the ACER online test enrolment including music experience details as required

·       sit the Scholarship test on 26 October 2019

·       provide a copy of the most recent school report and NAPLAN results

·       attend an audition

Applicants may also provide additional supporting material such as certificates of achievement or references.

Auditions

Auditions for Music (Instrumental or Voice) Scholarships will be held in the School’s Performing Arts Centre. (applicants will be informed of their audition date and time in advance).

 

At the audition, Instrumental and Voice candidates will be required to:
 

·     Play/sing two contrasting pieces on the principal instrument with accompaniment.

·     Play/sing scales and arpeggios.

·     Sight read.

·     Take a short aural test.

·     Participate in an interview.
