Cheering, chanting and House colours took over the Dolamore Oval athletics track for the 2018 Junior House Athletics Carnival on 26 October.
The conditions couldn’t have been better for a day of record breaking and close competition for the more than 250 students from K - Year 6 who competed.
The House chants set the scene for the day ahead, with fantastic house spirit and synchronised marching. Congratulations to St Margaret’s for winning the first event of the day and the largest trophy!
With the house chants over, the carnival was underway with all girls participating in running, jumping and throwing events.
Special mention and congratulations to our record breakers:
Libby Hathway, Kent, who set a new record in the Yr 6 Shot Put of 10.08m (previous 9.42m)
Dorothy Du, Grammar, who set a new record in the Yr 5 High Jump of 1.40m (previous 1.32m)
Charli Sullivan, McCowan, who set three new records in the Yr 4 Long Jump of 4.0m (previous 3.72m), Yr 4 200m 33.16 sec (previous 35.19) and the Yr 4 Hurdles of 13.94 (previous 15.06)
Individual Champion was awarded to Charli Sullivan in year 4 for her brilliant performances on the day. ( add story )
The winner’s trophy came down to the wire after day of close competition amongst the Houses meant it came down to the relays events decide the overall winning House.
Grammar House held onto their title of House Athletics winner – for the fourth consecutive year!
Final Results were as follows:
1st Place Grammar 372 points
2nd Place McCowan 362 points
3rd Place St Margaret’s 328 points
4th Place Kent 286 points
Head of the Junior School Edwina Aikman joined event organiser and sports teacher, Susie Massey in congratulating the girls, their house spirit and the level of sportswomanship displayed on the day along with the staff and student official for making the day possible.
“Also a big thank you must also go to our fabulous PA who had a sell out sausage sizzle and drinks stall for the spectators,” added Ms Aikman.
Charli takes GOLD at the School Sport Victoria State Championships
It’s gold, gold and more gold for Charli, Year 4, who capped off a winning week by clenching victory at the School Sport Victoria in the 9/10 year old 80 metre Hurdles at the Lakeside Stadium today.
Charli also took home the Individual Champion title at our 2018 Junior School House Athletics on Friday at the Dolomore Athletics Track after a brilliant performance winning five first places in Sprint, Hurdles, 200 m, Long Jump and Discus – as well as setting three new House Records.
