Our Mighty Meerkats left a blazing trail behind them after an outstanding performance at the Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) Finals Night yesterday (Tuesday 12 September) where 19 of our senior students competed against the ‘best of the best’ in Athletics.
Under the leadership of our two Athletics co-captains, Jemima Savage and Alex Gasparini, our Mighty Meerkats hit the track hard and strong, winning 12 medals in total – 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.
Standout performances include Kate Wilcock in Year 8, winning gold in 100m, 200m and 80m hurdles, as well as silver in long jump and bronze in the 4x100 relay, and Jess Welford in Year 11 winning gold in 100m, silver in 400m and bronze in 200m.
Head of Sport, Ms Libby Lewin, said, "The GSV competition is fierce and our students competed against hundreds of girls at the GSV Athletics Preliminaries and Championships in their respective events. Only students who placed in the Top 8 out of the 24 GSV member schools are invited to compete at Finals Night, so to receive an invitation for 19 of our students, is an incredible feat within itself.
“Although we may be a small school in comparison, the amount of our students competing was on par with everyone else. I’m so proud of everyone for giving it 100% in their respective events, and a special congratulation to those who placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd. This achievement is a true testament to our student’s hard work, commitment, grit and passion."
