Wellbeing is a priority at our School and every adult shares responsibility for the welfare of our students.  At the day to day level, we have a dedicated team of Home Group Teachers and VCE Tutors who are always the first point of contact for our students and their parents.  Together they work closely with the School leadership team to support students’ academic and personal wellbeing needs.  Our extensive wellbeing program includes a whole school approach to Mindfulness and encourages positive education, leadership and service.  In addition, we also have a highly qualified team of health professionals, educational specialists and support staff who provide a range of wellbeing and pastoral care services to our students and their families.

Student Services
Our Student Services team includes Learning Enhancement specialists and experts in Curriculum and Careers Counselling services.  Our Education Support Groups (ESG) assist students with very particular needs and work in partnership with parents to assist the student and provide a personalised program of support.  Clear and active communication structures in all areas also ensure issues and concerns are addressed in an appropriate and timely manner.

Wellbeing Centre
Our Wellbeing Centre offers students a dedicated space to practise Mindfulness, keep active and access our School's health services. The new building includes a Mind Body Studio to host group discussions or yoga/pilates classes, an upgraded fitness gym, and a home for our School Nurse and School Psychologist, linking these important services.

In 2017, we have commenced construction on our new Wellbeing Precinct  - a highly anticipated project that follows our strategic focus on sports and wellbeing. The Precinct will include an 8-lane indoor swimming pool, diving boards and an additional learn-to-swim pool along with 12 outdoor multi-purpose sports courts.

School Nurse
Our qualified Registered Nurse has extensive experience working in schools and is available to attend to student illness, accidents and emergencies from 8.15am – 4.15am during term time. The School Nurse is housed in the new purpose-built Wellbeing Centre.

School Psychologist
Our highly experienced School Psychologist, Mrs Lara Silkoff, provides individual counselling support to assist with issues such as anxiety, stress, motivation, self esteem, social issues, family difficulties, mental health issues, learning problems and grief.  Access to counselling is easy and discreet for students and will help them to identify problems, think clearly about what is happening and what they want to happen, and ultimately develop an effective plan of action to rectify the situation.  Lara also conducts workshops and seminars for students as part of the WAVES Care and Leadership Program, and is supported by a network of external health professionals. Lara is also housed in the new purpose-built Wellbeing Centre along with the School Nurse.

School Chaplain
Students have the support of our delightful School Chaplain, Rev Philippa Lohmeyer-Collins, who provides informal discussion groups and a warm and caring environment, as well as group lessons through our Religion and Values Education RAVE) program.  Students can also visit ‘Rev Philippa’ confidentially at any time.

Confidentiality for Psychology Services
Written parental consent will be sought for individual Psychology sessions with students from the Junior School.  In the Senior School, students may request to see the School Psychologist without parental consent.  As much as possible, the School Psychologist will work to involve parents in the counselling process for the benefit of the student, but will also ensure student privacy where required.

Written parental consent will be sought in both the Junior and Senior School for formal cognitive and behavioural testing.  Formal consent is not required for participation in group programs run by the School Psychologist as part of the WAVES curriculum.

Discussions with students are confidential.  This means that for Senior students, we do not tell parents, teachers or other students what we talk about.  The exception to this is if a student’s health, or someone else’s, is at risk.  At times, the School Psychologist may ask for information to be shared with teachers or other professionals for the benefit of the student.  In these situations, consent for sharing information will be sought from students and parents.

Where appropriate, the School Psychologist may also liaise with other staff at the School to support and enable students to reach their full potential, within confidentiality guidelines.

Support for Parents
Our School’s support staff can also offer guidance to parents regarding parenting or school issues, and recommend external professionals if ongoing support is required.  In addition, we offer parents access to our All About Girls Parenting Series which is a program of practical seminars led by child psychologists, education specialists and other experts, addressing contemporary issues affecting girls today.
