Mentone Girls' Grammar students win 49 medals at the Schoolaerobics, Dancestar and Glee National Championships on the Gold Coast.

Mentone Girls' Grammar students performed at the Schoolaerobics, Dancestar and Glee National Championships on the Gold Coast in August, taking home an array of medals across Senior and Junior School in both individual and team events.

The Schoolaerobics, Dancestar and Glee program at this School has grown from one Aerobics team in 2001 to 83 qualifying students in 81 different events at the National Championships.

Highlights from the weekend included Mali A and Ellie S (Year 11) with the highest score for their Glee duo, Jade L (Year 12) scoring 91 for her Lyrical solo and the two fitness teams placing in the top three in an incredibly high standard section. The mega team, made up of 28 students, won the section by a point, making it three back-to-back titles.

Both the Jazz and Contemporary Senior teams performed faultlessly to medal in their incredibly tough sections. It was fabulous to have nine Year 12's in the Squad, leading and mentoring the younger students who were new to the two arenas and magnitude of the event.

Junior School students also dazzled the judging panel with medals scored in individual and team events. The campaign started with Primary Theatrical team 'Enchanted' taking out the silver medal. Team Red Panthers competed alongside Red Rippers in the Primary Stage 1 Aerobics where Red Rippers took home a bronze medal.

Individual highlights included Linderbelle C (Year 6) receiving silver in the Primary Singles Blue, Molly S (Year 6) winning gold in Primary Singles Orange, Erica W (Year 4) receiving gold in the Primary Singles Stage 3 and Sophie P (Year 6) winning a silver medal in the same section. Claire G (Year 3) received gold in the Future Legends section and Willow D (Year 6) shined in the Primary Athlete Audition - Orange section.

At the conclusion of the National Competition, Mentone Girls' Grammar left with a record haul of 49 National medals.

Head coach Jess Hayes said, "I am incredibly proud of the students' dedication and hard work, especially after two challenging years of training and competing online. Our attention now turns to the Spring Challenge in October where the entire Squad will compete, which will be the first opportunity for some of our younger students."
