Music

Music is a thriving area of the school, which enables students to engage with harmony, melody, texture and form.

All students can learn any instrument from both Western and Eastern cultures as private tuition, taught by a team of world-renowned musicians.

There are boundless opportunities to showcase musical talent including music soirees, orchestral programs, ensembles, choirs, jazz bands, solo performances, music camp, interstate festivals, competitions and many more. In addition, students are fortunate to experience audio engineering programs on campus using the latest technology and collect industry exposure in a recording studio.

All students study classroom music in Prep – Year 6. In Senior School students can choose music as an elective.

Music electives provide opportunities for performing, creating and exploring music of all kinds. Students are encouraged to be confident performers as well as creative and critical thinkers who respond to music with insight and understanding.

HOUSE MUSIC

There are four Houses at Mentone Girls' Grammar and the House music competition fosters House spirit, camaraderie and participation for all students in both Junior and Senior School.

The annual House Music Competition is a much loved tradition which involves all students from Prep to Year 12. This is a student led event which showcases the choral and instrumental skills of the girls in each of the Houses.

PRIVATE MUSIC TUITION

The music department offers private tuition in a range of instruments as well as lessons in voice and music theory.

All students who learn an instrument are encouraged to join an ensemble to support their musical development and general wellbeing.
