Teaching and Learning

As technology continues to evolve, so does the way educators teach and students learn. At Mentone Girls’ Grammar, our Research and Technology team stays up to date with the latest advancements to enhance teaching and learning across all year levels and the curriculum.

Our digital strategy ensures that technology skills are embedded in teaching practice at all year levels, complementing the learning process. In the Junior School, students learn coding, while in VCE, they explore data analytics and professional media editing using a variety of software.

Students are also provided with a range of hardware, including 3D printers, laser cutters, virtual reality headsets, and gaming platforms, to help them create and collaborate in exciting new ways. This technology encourages transformative and future-focused learning, and provides students with the tools to succeed in a digital age.

Ethical Use and Wellbeing

Mentone Girls’ Grammar is an eSmart school, which is an initiative to help teachers and the greater community manage cyber risks, bullying, online predation and more.

In conjunction with this initiative, we educate our students on responsible, ethical and purposeful technology use across a range of contexts. We also regularly offer information seminars, wellbeing workshops, support for parents/teachers, and access to resources to ensure we are equipping all with the skills required to navigate an increasingly digital world.

Devices

Mentone Girls’ Grammar provides students with a range of devices to support their learning. Students from Prep to Grade 2 use iPads, while students from Grade 3 use PCs. The devices used by Junior School students are owned by the School.

From Year 7 onwards, students can join the ‘Bring Your Own Device’ program. This allows them to either retain their current device, or chose a new ont that suits their individual needs. All students have access to the Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, as well as Office 365, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Students also have access to a security suite for online protection, and their data is backed up using OneDrive for easy transition from one device to another.

mConnect

mConnect is the Mentone Girls’ Grammar Learning Management System (LMS), which plays a pivotal role in supporting our digital strategy. Through this system, our entire school community can access and engage with learning content, communicate with each other, and receive academic results and feedback.
