Year 10 marks the beginning of our three-year VCE program. It is an exciting stage, guiding students in their transition from the broad curriculum of Years 7–9 to the more focused and rigorous studies of Senior School. In this year, students commence their VCE journey by undertaking two VCE Units 1/2 subjects, while also completing a suite of Year 10 core subjects that strengthen the knowledge, skills, and habits essential for success in VCE and beyond.
This structure allows students to experience the expectations and demands of VCE early, while still having the support of a Year 10 program tailored to adolescent learning and development. Students are encouraged to explore their interests, refine their study practices, and begin to shape their pathways into Years 11 and 12 with confidence.
Throughout the year, students engage in rich academic, co-curricular and community-based experiences that foster confidence, independence and personal excellence. Year 10 is also supported by comprehensive careers education and subject counselling, helping students make informed decisions about future study and career aspirations.
All Year 10 students are required to complete the designated core subjects, which provide essential knowledge and skills across key learning areas.
Year 10 students must undertake all the subjects in the core blocks.
In addition to the core subjects, Year 10 students select two elective subjects from a wide range of VCE 1/2 subjects and Year 10 languages. Students can also study a subject externally, either at TAFE, via the Victorian School of Languages, or through Virtual Schools Victoria.
The Accelerated VCE enables students to have a sixth subject to contribute towards their ATAR. Students may progress one of their VCE Unit 1/2 subjects to Unit 3/4 level in Year 11, provided they meet the following minimum requirements: an average of at least 70% across all Year 10 subjects, and a minimum score of 75% in the relevant Unit 1/2 subject.
Year 10 students have access to a wide range of academic extension and support activities, including:
These programs encourage higher-order thinking, creativity and collaboration, and support students to extend their learning beyond the classroom.
Students participate in a comprehensive Careers Education program in Semester 1 and ongoing pathway planning through:
One-on-one counselling with the Head of Careers & Enterprise ensures that students make informed and strategic decisions as they plan their senior studies.
As part of their Year 10 experiences, students are also encouraged to participate various extra-curricular activities including: aerobics, debating, School Production, other forms of social service, various Performing Arts groups, House activities and GSV sporting teams.
