Surpassing borders of staff development with new bursaries for future upskilling and learning. 

Teachers are the cornerstone of the exemplary education provided at Mentone Girls’ Grammar. As part of an initiative to further promote professional development opportunities, a range of bursaries have been established to contribute to further learning.


Ms Alahana Somerville is travelling to the Colburn School of Music in California to attend a Kodály Method Symposium and engage in a range of learning workshops. This program will look at ways particular music teaching methods can contribute to overall improved academic achievement.

Mr Christian Williams will undertake a series of excursions, design and development initiatives, and research-based activities with students, partnering with local Council and Melbourne University, to investigate solutions to improve our marine ecosystem.

Mentone Girls’ Grammar Fellowship

Our most significant bursary is the Mentone Girls’ Grammar Fellowship. This fellowship extends support, both financially and logistically, to a staff member who seeks to undertake a significant research project for not only the betterment of their own practice, but to contribute to our community of learners in return. The inaugural Fellow for 2023 is Ms Camilla Gaff (Year 1 Teacher). Ms Gaff’s research proposal addresses the mental health implications over the last three years of disrupted learning, and our obligation as educators to address the needs of a neuro-diverse cohort, with a goal of improving academic outcomes for our students.

Ms Camilla Gaff will travel to California to engage in the Social Thinking Clinical Training program in April, to network with likeminded educators and learn from leading experts in this field. This program will then inform a range of approaches to address the needs of both neurotypical and neuro-divergent students across our School.
